Headache is one of the most common clinical conditions all over the world. More than half of the population of India has suffered headache at least once in last year. This is rather common question among people that how to get rid of headache?
As the name suggests headache is a feeling of pain which may be felt suddenly for some moments and then subsides itself. It can also be a dreadful migraine which cause moderate to severe pain for hours or even days. Headache may be a symptom of many serious diseases like encephalitis and many more.

Headache can be categorized in many ways like the degree of pain, frequency of occurrence or their origin. Tension headaches are very common and caused due to extra pressure put on neck and head region. It may cause mild to moderate pain and does not disturb our regular activities.
Wrong sleeping habits and long hours spent in looking at TV, computer, laptop or mobile may trigger the tension headache. Normal painkillers like aspirin are enough to get rid of headache which falls under this category.
It is a type headache which occurs due to excessive use of caffeine or due to sudden withdrawal from caffeine. People who consume caffeine regularly tends to feel headache if they tries to break the routine.

Cluster headaches is a headache in which person feels agonizing and severe pain around the eyes and at one side of head. Person may also feel reddening of face and running nose.

Exertion headache cause very severe pain in head as if your nerves are ready to explode it remains till the heart pumps at its regular speed after that mild pain remains for few days in which case we should cease the activity for some days to get rid of headache.
Migraine headaches cause very terrible pain in head. It remains for some hours to few days. A person experiencing migraine may also feel vulnerability to sound, smell or light.
Symptoms of forth coming migraine are restlessness, inability to participate in routine work, feeling dizzy or nausea. It can be triggered by changing of hormones, loud sounds or certain foods and fragrances.

1. Take pain killers
For normal headaches you can take over the counter pain killers like aspirins which can be sold directly by a pharmacist to the customer without any prescription from the doctor.
But you should not take these pills regularly more than twice a day or body will get adapted to the medicine and you will not get rid of headache or it may led to rebound headache which occur due to medication overuse.
2. Live in quiet and pleasant environment
During the headache go to some peaceful and dimly lit place. You can consider going to some park or at the bank of some lake. Just remember to request other people politely not to disturb you in advance so that you get uninterrupted peace. This is very effective method and helps a lot to get rid of headache fast.
3. Listen soothing music
Concentrate on the soft music without using headphones at low volume. Many researches suggest the amazing results of music therapy in deceasing the pulse rate and thus calming you down which will help you to get rid of headache.
4. Use ice pack
Apply ice pack on your head and relax. Keep your eyes close and try to sleep. In absence of ice pack you can also use a clean cloth socked in chilled water. But you should change it as soon as it gets warm from the heat of your head. Use ice pack for several times in a day and it will help you to get rid of headache in no time.
5. Take hot shower
Taking hot shower will rejuvenate your mind and relax all your tensed muscles. Warm water will decrease your blood flow in the blood vessels and will calm your stress and anxiety and help to get rid of headache.
Massage is very good option for relieving the excruciating pain in head and to get rid of headache. Apply gentle pressure with your fingers on your forehead, crown of the head and upper neck. Try various massaging techniques like:
- Rolling in which we do light pinching while never breaking contact with the skin.
- Stroking is a massaging technique in which we stroke the surface of the skin gently.
- Vibration which is exact as it name suggest. We use palms or fingers to do very swift shaking without removing the finger or palm from skin.

7. Inhale pleasing fragrances
Inhale the pleasant fragrances from various natural resources like flowers, grass, and other such things. Good odor directly influences our mood and relaxes mind and body. Try rose, daisy, sandalwood and many more such flowers which work very positively to help you to get rid of headache.
8. Do breathing exercises

1. Drink plenty of water
Drinking water will remove all the toxins from your body and it will refresh your body. Many time headaches occur due to dehydration. So keep yourself hydrated specially while going out in hot temperature. For more benefit add some drops of lemon or honey in water and avoid drinking extra hot or extra chilled water as it may lead to headache.
2. Take proper amount of sleep
Take at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep to prevent not only headaches but many more brain related diseases like depression. Do not sleep at irregular pattern, make a routine of sleeping and stick to it. Avoid late night parties and watching TV for long hours at night.
3. Do exercise regularly
Do some sort of physical exercise daily as it will strengthen your body and will distract you from your negative thoughts and thus decrease your stress, anxieties and such mental conditions which lead to the chances of headache.
4. Do yoga
Perform yogic practices daily as it not only eliminates the chances of headaches but saves you from all types of mental and physical disorders and gives you inner peace. It inculcate right attitude towards life and make the wholesome development of an individual.
5. Take proper diet
Take right amount of food with good nutritional value. Avoid over eating, junk food, much oily food and non vegetarian food like chicken as they affect mood very badly and increase the chances of headaches. Eat the food items which are good for brain like almond and cashew.
6. Try to remain happy
Always be happy and try to keep others happy too. Build a friendly environment at your workplace and home. Avoid anger as it triggers headache specially avoid jaw clenching and clenching of fist.
Take short break from work and go on a picnic or vacation with friends and family as it will keep your mental state steady and will decrease the chances of headache.
